Camera or operator? Is it that easy?

I got someone a Nikon n75 film camera and their first roll of film came out all exposed or exposed with a half moon black spot. No pictures were developed ( at wal mart) because they said there weren't any. I have yet to see the film, but is this a known problem that anyone can help with? Also, the camera was used and I never tested it, but it appeared to be in like new condition, there were no scratches or wear marks

Can you post an example? If you've gotten prints why don't you have the negatives? Inspecting them is where I'd start.

Sounds like the lens might be at fault. Hard to really say one way or the other without seeing some pictures.

Do you have another lens you can try? See if the problem only comes up with that one lens...

If the defect goes into the rebate (non-image area) of the film, it's probably not the camera/lens. Can you clearly see the edges of the frame on the film?
