With a medium sized dslr (canon 80d) what would you recommend for walking around in the woods or the occasional shoot out in town? A strap like black rapid makes or a hand strap like the peak clutch?

Depends on what is comfortable to you but if you like the Black rapid type of strap, check amazon for the knock off brands. They work just as well and you'll only pay 10%.

Having shot with a Black Rapid for years, I'd recommend the Luma Cinch or the Peak Design Slide. They largely eliminate the swinging camera issue that plagues sling straps. As far as a wrist strap goes, You'll still want to be able to put down the camera at some point. Carrying a camera all day without a bag to put it in or a strap to hang it from gives you nothing but a sore hand at the end of the day.

Peak Design Slide is fantastic. Camera doesn't flop when walking around like the BlackRapid straps.

I use the strap Canon provided with my 80D. Cannot see a reason to change it.
