I have the Canon Rebel T1i... a part of me wants to upgrade, which would you recomend? D90, D700, or the D7000? My friend that is a higher up photographer suggested to just stick w/ what I have & focus on new lenses?!?

Why would you switch from Canon to Nikon if you already have Canon gear? Or do you not have anything more than just the kit lens?

For that matter... what are you reasons for wanting to upgrade in general?

*Moving to equipment subsection*

Also why are you looking at Nikon camera bodies when you're already using Canon?

I think the first thing is why you want to upgrade? or what is your equipment not doing that you are looking for?

Are you in the bunch that has discovered that the T1i is a consumer camera and therefore think you need to upgrade? Because your camera is an incredibly capable camera that you probably shouldn't be feeling a pinch on at all-regardless of consumer or not. Or is the camera really not doing something for you?
MOST reasons for upgrade aren't actually reasons, but can be fixed with a little bit of education or knowledge. I think your friend is probably very right.

Common sense would be that an upgrade from your camera would be the 60D or 7D

For the same reason you'd listen to the Black Keys, even though your kid has all the Justin Bieber CD's...

Canon is seriously lagging since 2009. They've pretty much stopped innovating. Nikon has taken over the lead. The T1i versus the D7000 or the D700? Snort....that's a case of Justin Bieber (T1i) versus any number of "real" musicians geared toward grown-up taste.:sexywink:

Geez....one would think that you own stock.

Upgrade when your T1i, with a high quality lens on it, can't do what you need it to do.

Upgrade when your skills surpass what the T1i is capable of doing.

To many people today think high quality photographs are all about the hardware, when photographer knowledge and skill are what really count.

I recommend working on upgrading your photographic technical and artistic skills before you consider upgrading hardware.

Derrel just likes to give us Canon shooters hell and call us "Canon Fanboy's." Makes him feel superior.

He owns both Canon and Nikon gear and he knows what he's doing...so I greatly respect his opinion. But that doesn't mean that I don't enjoy giving him a jab now and them.

Ah, but you see Derrel, as far as the kids today are concerned, Justin Bieber IS real music, and will doubtless be still thinking that when they're as old as us, and will look down with disdain on whatever their kids are listening to! My point is you're not comparing like for like - the T1i is a very capable camera, but is not aimed at the same market as the D700 / 7000, just like it's not aimed at the same market as the 5D or the 7D. These things are all swings n roundabouts at the end of the day - for the last few years Canon has gradually fallen behind Nikon in many many departments, but before that the reverse was true, and will be true again, before it reverses yet again, ad infinitum...

BTW, did I read right - you have 50 Nikon lenses and 8 or so Canon??? have to say that's either damned impressive or just plain nuts, i'm not sure which! :lmao:
