can anything be done to improve this

I know its not a great photo to begin with but I wont be able to go back to this place again for a while.
Is there any way to make the coast/water more visible? Stand out more?
I would really appreciate it if someone could mess around with the pic to improve it.

The foreground (trees/land) dominate the scene in terms of brightness. Overall the picture has a dark cast to it. I put it in photoshop just to play to see if anything could be fixed. When I applied shadow/highlights I could only faintly get the background (sea/coastline) visible.

Was it very hazy out? Did you have a UV/Haze filter on the lens?

awe: The shore/water/sky turned out really great... The foreground's colors got kinda messed up, but maybe a combination of the two could fix that. Good job. What exactly did you do to get those colors for the water/sky?
