canon 20 2.8 lens question...

So i dropped my 24 2.8 lens (canon) on the cement; needless to say, yeah, it's broke (not the glass, but the electronic part of it). It does not look broke until you attach it to the camera (error error error!!!)

anyhow, i'm looking for a new one today and came across the 20 2.8 canon.... just wondering if anyone owns this lens and your thoughts on it.

I had this lens for a short time. I liked the field of view as it was very wide on my 20d. But it was very soft wide open. Pretty much unusable wide open and didn't really get any kind of sharpness unless I stopped it down to about f/5.6. The wide angle is very attractive, but for me it just wasn't worth it. I instead went with the 28mm 1.8. Still decently wide and pretty much a normal lens as well as faster than the 20 2.8. It's up to you, but I'd avoid it and maybe even get a new 24 2.8 if you liked it. Sorry for your loss!
