One of the 'tricks' of advertising and marketing is to never state what the product does NOT do or have. I learned this the hard way when I bought some outdoor work boots that did not explicitly state they were waterproof. And they weren't!

Although I haven't looked, I suspect the same is true of most lenses as well as camera bodies. In general, only the higher-end gear ($$$) is weather sealed. It should be noted that weather sealed gear would handle being in a light to moderate rain storm, but not being dropped in a lake.
