Hi Everybody,

So I'm new to photography, purchasing my 550D a few weeks ago,
Thinking of buy the above lens and wondering if anyone can help answer a few questions, Please:)?

Since this is a prime lens on a cropped sensor, I understand that although it is 50mm, it will actually be 80mm (hope thats right??)? I want to see how helpful this is with the kit lenses i have so, do i keep my 18-55mm lens locked on 50mm OR do i put my 55-250mm lens on and keep it at 80mm? Sorry if this is confusing:/

Also I'm looking at taking group photographs and so am wanting a wide angled lens, will this lens be good for me?

This lens will come with an adapter to fit my Canon 550D.

Thanks In Advance for any help:)

Ta, Sasha

I would not recommend this if you are new. Firstly 50mm lens is always a 50mm lens, but your view through it is the same as an 80mm lens on a 35mm format camera or full frame digital. 50 on this lens is 50mm on your 18-55 not 80 on your longer lens. 50mm on a crop camera (550d) is not wide angle. Anything below approx 21 on your camera would be considered wide. The lens you mentioned would be a nice portrait lens but won't autofocus. Your 18-55 should be good for group shots
