Canon EF 50 mm f/1.8 II Lens - good deal?

Is the Canon EF 50 mm f/1.8 II Lens any good? - Asking as right now its reduced from £129 to £79.

Ive used a 50mm f/1.8 in FD mount in the past and was impressed with that, so was looking for something similar for my EOS when I saw this deal.

Has anyone used one of these? (It will be complement to the 35-80mm USM currently fitted) and is it a good deal / an improvement (I rarely use the wider/longer focal lengths on my current lens anyway) ?

I heard one too many horror stories about the 50 1.8 getting stuck on cameras so I bought the 50 1.4 instead. Been very happy with it and taken lots of great very low light pics too.
