I have decided to go with this lens as my 1st telephoto,
I'd love to get a 70-200 L USM f4 but realistically it's outta my price range.

This lens has good reviews but i read somewhere its approaching L quality ?

In comparison with the SIGMA 70-300 DG MACRO is it better ? worse ? the same , and can I use a SIGMA 70-300 DG MACRO with my camera ?

(Canon EOS 400D - Rebel XTi)

I'm a Canon shooter but I can't speak to the quality of the lens you mentioned as I have never owned or shot it. If this however is the lens you are talking about:

Then I would suggest that you possibly look at this 70-200 f4L lens from Canon. I did own this lens and loved the quality. I only got rid of it to go to the f2.8 version for sports.

It does not have IS on it, but it is one very sharp lens, very well built and the price is comparable and having a constant aperture across the entire focal length is nice.

If you must have IS then either the first lens or save your pennies for the IS version of the 70-200 f4.

Thanks , I ended up getting the EF 70-300 IS 4-5.6 ,,
i am very happy with it , i wont be using it for sports,
so its fast enough for me ..
