Canon EOS 7D telephoto

Who said anything about cropping?

The problem with the 7D is that inferior lenses tend to make the image look quite stippled even if you don't crop. They also tend to look softer and CA and the ilk are more pronounced.

show me a web sized image where that is apparent?

Chortle. Look a the top of the bird photo. Also many people like to print their photos (weird, weird I know... the horror).

I shoot a 7D with both a 70-200 f2 L, and an EF-S 15-85 3.5/5.6. So both a fast lens and a not so fast lens. I can say that I use the EF-S most of the time. It takes great pictures even though it is not an "L" series lens. The bird picture you refer to Chortle was shot with a 3200 ISO and -1 EV, I believe it is more about the noise than stippling. I would say that the noise there would probably have been much less with a lower ISO rather than the lens having as much to do with it. I have seen the same effect with both of my lens when i comes to noise and trying to correct for them.
