Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
Hello all, I currently have a Canon Rebel Xti and just recently purchased the Canon EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L USM and Canon EF 50mm f/1.4 USM lenses. Well my question to you more experienced Canon photographers(or non Canon shooters), I plan on upgrading my camera body in the near future to either a 7D or 5D mark II. Obviously there are more mega pix(among other differences such as No Spot metering etc... ) in both of these compared to my Rebel Xti. Will I see a HUGE difference in the photos with the 5D or 7D compared to the Rebel Xti???

Probably not as big as you think with the 7d. It has different economics and larger files with more res. It has great picture quality etc and will be an improvement just don't expect it to be an earth shattering difference. The 5D will give you a different perspective with these lenses and possibly different dof but can't say much more as don't have ff. Both cameras would be major upgrades though in usage and better in low light.

The biggest difference with the 7D is the camera's performance. Although the 7D has more resolution -- you may not be using all that resolution today, so resolution alone might not be obvious. The 7D also handles higher ISO speeds before noise becomes an issue. If you're using both cameras at ISO 100, then you won't notice a difference. But if you were shooting at even ISO 800 then difference would be obvious.

And then there's the 5D II. You'll notice a substantial difference here because it's a full-frame camera. The EF lenses are projecting a large image into the camera body, but the sensor on the XTi is only capturing the center of that image. The 5D II, having a sensor which is physically much larger, will give you a wider angle of view on all of your EF lenses (you cannot use EF-S lenses on a 5D II.) A 24mm focal length on an XTi or 7D is *barely* wide. A 24mm focal length on a 5D II is very noticeably wide angle.

jaomul, Tim, thanks for your input. Looks like i have some decisions to make. Its a bummer that I can't use EF lenses on the 5D.

You CAN use EF lenses on the 5D. You CAN'T use EF-s lenses on the 5D though. Only crop frame (APS-C) bodies like the 7D or XTi. Thankfully the 24-70 and 50/1.4 are EF lenses.

Tyler thanks for pointing that out. Tim did state that in his post, guess I missed the (EF-S). I have sleep deprivation, only running on a few hrs of sleep.
