I'm new to photoshoping stuff and trying to get the hang of it. Could someone tell me the proper way to convert color to black and white? Thanks guys.

Try a search, there are plenty of threads here that have different methods of doing this.

I have a really neat Photoshop plug-in that gives you all sorts of control & different options for converting to b&w. I got it free at www.photo-plugins.com

How do I use plug-ins. I downloaded the B&W conversion, it looks pretty cool. I just need to figure out how to use it =p.

If it's in the proper directory, you should be able to pick it from the filters menu. Here is where mine are C:\Program Files\Adobe\Photoshop CS\Plug-Ins\Downloaded

Hmm. I don't have a download folder in the plug-ins. I do have 7.0, is that why? I have Effects, Filters, Import-Export... Anything like that? Is it a filter?

If you don't use the plugins I suggest you to use the channel mixer in the monochrome mode and change the color levels

one easy method would be Image > Mode > Greyscale
or
Desaturate = Command/Control + option/alt + U

Yes you could do that but don't have as much control....

Mike's suggestion is good or try the channel mixer layer...tons and tons of ways to do this, just have to figure out what works for you.

I Found this in another forum:
Use channel mixer, check monochrome box and slide the rules to the channel, to emulate the most common commercial films:
(in any combination the sum must be 100)
