Which make the better picture, the early morning, or the mid-afternoon shot ?

Apart from some minor cropping there have been no adjustments, both photos were taken from about 20 feet away using a 105mm lens and the same aperture settings

I definately like the first one (I guess it's the morning shot). The second one seems flat, the light is not as interesting and the background is not blurred and darkened enough so it interferes with the flowers.
