I am a fan of the movie 300. One of the things I really liked about it was the very contrasty look to the entire film.

Since then, I've noticed a big change in my work, mostly because I have been trying to copy that type of contrast.

Here are a couple examples: "Prepare for glory"

I didn't want them to look menacing.

It's the high contrast I was after.
 
I think high contrast kicks butt too. :) And the second one looks great but in the first one I think the high contrast has made his eyes and skin on his face look dark, at least on my monitor. That happens to me too but I just use layers to make the face a little brighter so it doesn't get confused with underexposure or lack of fill. Nice job!
