Are conversion lenses any good?
I'm not so sure if I should buy one, my dad tells me they mess up the quality and aren't worht it.
I would buy a DSLR but I'm 16 and don't exactly have a lot of cash handy.
I appreciate any comments
thanks

Is a conversion lens the same as extension tubes?

I think extension tubes are an alternative to macro lenses and are used on SLRs

by conversion lens, are you referring to those screw in adapter lens mainly made for Point and shoot cameras w/o interchangeable lenses? The ones frequently found on ebay for about $30 each, and usually come in combo deals like a wide and telephoto? Those are junk. And dad is right. It will degrade the quality of the lens that is attached to the camera.

Or, are you talking about teleconverter lenses which accompany telephoto lenses, thus increasing their focal length? Those are worth the money, however, you also loose a stop of aperture for a 1.4x converter and two stops for a 2x.

If you are talking about a teleconverter check the thread "I KEPT MY PROMISE" In the beyond the basics thread.
