I can not figure out for the life of me how people get away with using copyright music for slideshows and sell DVDs. Videographers use them too for their videos. Is there some loop hole I missing or is it just common practice to break the law?

yup. don't touch my pictures, but hey how do you like my background music?

I kinda doubt it for most of the stuff I've seen, but it is possible that they are actually going through the proper channels and obtaining the rights to use it.

I would assume that higher-end businesses are doing that.

They hope that their business and use of copyrighted materials is small enough that they will remain "under the radar." Remember when Napster was still around, and millions of people were illegally sharing music, The government picked just a couple users at random to file charges against and make them an example.

People think that they will go unnoticed. There was an mid level MMA fight last year. It was a live show with a internet broadcast. Each fighter entered on a short clip of music, which they had not paid for the use rights. 12 minutes into the show the broadcast was shut down. Too late to get a refund on that video truck!

There are plenty of libraries of royalty free music that can be purchased for video and sideshow use.

mer thats why i would just use CC licensed music; CC by is great :P. but yes infringement=common

That's what I thought. I see a TON of it and started wondering if there was something I missed. Didn't want to be left out. :P It's just mind boggling how many people do it.
