Yes it was, reduce the opacity of brush layer.

Yeah it's a little much. I also think you need to do some color correcting on the face, I'm seeing some magenta there.

Yeah, i only know how to do like two things in photoshop! I get a headache with it! I am good at keeping only one thing colored though

It is not a matter of the Photoshop being too much, but rather that there are a lot of basics in camera technique and posing that Photoshop cannot help.

Take a look at some of the tips on this website for shooting portraits.

I think her face is a little to bright, maybe colored or darkened a tad.
