D2xs vs D300

If you're not going to go over ISO 400, the D2x is a great camera.

But except for the body characteristics, the D300 is better in every way.

Do yourself a solid and go for the D300, or D90+good lenses.

I wouldn't say that at all. The D2x will be superior in image quality at base iso. For a macro shooter like myself, this makes the D2x a very serious consideration. I have often considered unloading my D90 to get a D2x with the base ISO IQ being one of the bigger reasons. I've even talked with a macro shooter who moved from a D2x to a D300 and somewhat regrets the decision. I think he'd probably buy a D2x again if he wasn't wanting to go full frame...and of courser full frame is where the D2x finally gets beat.

I will agree that in most situations a D300 would be a better choice, but for those of us that shoot base iso most of the time the D2x might be worth a closer look.

So after a bit of prowling, reading reviews, and scouring the internet for deals, I settled on a relatively new (as far as d300's go) D300 with an MB-D10 grip for under $900. It has been well taken care of and maintained, and the shutter count is sub 15k if i do remember correctly.

Good choice, and good deal as well.
