D300s no ISO display and adjustment?

So I've been playing around with my D300s trying to get everything setup the way I like it and it appears that it doesn't have a setting that I LOVE and constantly use on my D90. The setting is under ISO display and adjustment and you have the option to turn off the shot count and display ISO instead. When in this mode you also can directly control the ISO with command dial when in aperture priority.

Does anyone know of a way to do this on the D300s?

Are you talking about ISO value displayed in the viewfinder? By default, all my Nikons display ISO in the viewfinder (I think... I'd have to go check the D80, but pretty sure). With the D300 & D700 it's just a matter of depressing the ISO button and turning the rear comand wheel to adjust. However, 98% of the time I'm in Manual shooting mode.

I know what he's talking about, and it would be kind of odd if the D300 had it but the D300s doesn't. I have mine set the same way on my D90 (however I prefer not to use the easy ISO option).

With a D300s I'm afraid you're a pioneer and will probably have to hash through the differences and report back for us.

It displays ISO in the viewfinder... not sure if that helps.

It obviously displays ISO when you hold down the ISO button.

Yea but I like being able to always view it instead of picture count and being able to change it with the thumb dial instead of holding down a button and turning the dial.

I could give a $hit what the top LCD displays. The crux of the biscuit is in the viewfinder while the action is happening. (besides, I need my glasses to read the top LCD)

Well it shows both in the viewfinder so that's not a big deal. It's nice to have it on the top as well and the command dial is the big thing. That's the main reason I want that option.

Yea I tried that. Looks like the option just isn't there. I've gone through the Quick Guide; I'll make my way through the User Manual tomorrow to see if I can find it.

I could not agree more!
EASY ISO option would be great on D300s! I really hope future cameras will have the D90's option. Since most people shoot in aperture priority, the back dial is useless. There should be an option to make the back dial ISO adjustment, like on the D90.

The none of the higher end cameras have it on the top LCD display. It's not a feature from the D200 or anything higher that I know of. The simple point is give the photographer what they need. I would imagine most photographers need the lowest ISO in a given situation, and not a specific number making the act of displaying it constantly a large waste on some very tight real estate on these displays. Even then as people pointed out it's in the viewfinder.

Just a personal opinion though but I can see how this isn't a "missing feature"

all you have to do is press one button and it comes up...

i shoot jpg sometimes too. Raw isnt always worth it.
