D5100 lens questions

Looking on CL for some used lenses to get for my new D5100. Any suggestions I'd appreciate. I go to Lime Rock Park every year for the LeMans race so ideally I need a lens that can zoom in a good distance.

Nikon 80-200mm F4.5-5.6D AF Auto Focus Lens

Nikon 55-200mm Camera Lens

Nikon 55-200mm f/4-5.6G ED IF AF-S DX VR

Tamron (for Nikon) 18-200mm Zoom Lens

The D lens won't AF on your 5100. So unless you're adept at manual focus, that one's out.

The 55-200 is a kit lens, and it's not VR. It will do the job if you're good at handholding the camera.

The 55-200 VR has, well.. VR. That's a plus. And it's got a focus motor in it. Ding! Ding! Ding!

I can't respond to the Tamron as I'm not familiar with it.

Go that route or a used Nikon 70-200 2.8 VR1.

it should work well with your camera and it retails for $249 so $100 is a bargain.

I'm thinking a 200 is a little short for Lime Rock, It depends on how close to the track you can get. I always recommend refurb from Cameta, at least you get a 1 year warranty.

Thanks again. At Lime Rock you can get right up against the fence and there are sections where it's pretty damn close to the track. Here are examples of shots I took with a 35-55 lens. I called the guy with that lens for $100 and I'm getting it today, can't go wrong with that.
