What's new

D7000 which lens?

Dog shows can be notoriously poorly lit. You want every single f/stop you can buy. Especially since backgrounds tend to be busy. F/2.8 will be worth it's considerable weight in gold for stuff like this.

If you have the money, get the newest, best 70-200 f/2.8 VRII. if not, just go down the line of Nikon f/2.8 pro zooms. 70-200 VRII > 70-200 VRI > 80-200 2 ring > 80-200 push pull

For this type of thing, don't buy f/4 and don't buy third party (can be slow to focus in low light on moving subjects). Buy Nikon f/2.8, buy used and get VR if you can afford it.

Between f/5.6 and f/11 the 18-105 IQ is about as good as anything on a crop body, even on the D7000 with its high resolution.

My 18-105 was pretty ****ty no matter the F stop. Then again, I only had one copy.

Im English, but arent they technically called a British bulldog?.....I really love the French Bulldog too...A little smaller, but just as cute...

Here in the states its common to call them 'English Bulldogs'... It's true breed name according to the AKC, KC and UKC is just 'Bulldog'. Bulldog - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Its a sad history for the breed... Saved in the early 1800's by a small group of breeders only to be turned into little wrinkly walking health problems in the late 1900's. There is a big push now to undo some of the bad breeding of the past 70ish years.

Even with all the problems... i would still recommend one :)

The Sigma's are almost as fast as the Nikons.. they just are weaker at f/2.8. It all comes down to the money.

I'm going to cause another fight here :) but... i totally disagree.

I will give you the weight issue... and i believe the f/4 is also a bit shorter.. However..

The OP is shooting DX, and on DX the VR1 is just as good as the VR2. The VR1 is extremely sharp at f/2.8 and i will go on a limb and say that it will be sharper at f/4 then the Newer 70-200 f/4.

Also, i haven't seen anything that says what type of build quality the new f/4 will have. The VR1 is built like a TANK.

For the same price (A used VR1 is ~$1.3kUS) to me its a no brainier.. f/2.8 all the way!
Aaah, the VR1 ? Well, that one fell completely off my radar. :D

Besides my 80-200 f2.8 (two ring) I also vouch for the 85mm f1.8. It rocks!!!
