D80 vs Rebel XTI

I'm looking to get a DSLR ,and I'm trying to decide between the D80 and the Rebel XTI. I would buy it used, and the canon seems to be about $100-150 cheaper than the D80. I've heard some things about more noise on the nikon. As for lenses, I think I would start out with an 18-55, then get a 50mm 1.8 and a 70-300 telephoto later on. I'm sure this topic comes up alot but I'm really stuck.

The nikon d80 has better build quality, but the XTi has a CMOS sensor, meaning less heat, resulting in less digital noise.

I found the Rebel XS for 523 with the 18-55mm new on amazon. Seems like a good deal, but I can't decide if I should go for the nikon or not. Should I also consider the XSI?

The Rebel XT* and XS* do perform better for noise, but the D80 has better handling and ergonomics.

hmm this is a hard choice. As for lenses, would it be better to start with a 18-55, or get a sigma 18-200 os?

ok I've pretty much decided on a Rebel XS with the kit 18-55 IS lens. I'm also going to get a 50mm 1.8, and later on a telephoto. Thanks for the help guys.
