A photo of my Dad taken as part of a college portfolio. I know the shadows intrude a little onto a full face shot but it seems to capture him pretty well.

As you are saying yourself, the shadow on one part of his face does not do the photo too well, and I am not sure I really like the position of his hand, but if you yourself (and he himself) say(s) that it is him all right, then it is good! But I personally find that hands in the face are an element that needs to be thought over and planned very carefully.
