Depth of field

Hello.

I'm new to photography and new to editing.

I have tried to add depth of field to these photos. It doesn't look right. I used the simple function in Photoshop Elements 11 which just blurs the whole picture and then you click and drag on the areas to bring back to original. I think it looks terrible.

I'd love some tips on how to improve this photo in regards to DOF as well as any other improvements you can suggest I make.

You should not double post.

I didn't realize I couldn't post something twice--I wasn't sure which thread I should post this to. What does "Reported" mean? Have you reported me to TPF?

Being reported isn't a big deal. It just lets a mod know to come along and merge or delete a post by a user. They will also put it into the correct location for you if need be. No worries.

Reports just let mods know what's happening on the site. The little triangle icon in the lower left corner of a profile next to a post lets you report content. All the mods get to see them and get an email too so we can attend to things. They are used to report problems; disruptive behaviour; spam; things in the wrong place etc....
