The foreboding entrance to a castle in Trento, Italy....I may have posted a different version previously, this is another frame....better imo!

Very interesting Roger. The ornament around the door is called nailhead moulding in English Gothic architecture, though here it's used with Classical work. I've never seen it employed in that way before.

thanks Tony....this is one of the entrances to Buonconsiglio Castello in Trento, the inside of the castello was fascinating and I have a number of shots on my smugmug page. The archietecture in Trento is quite different from other areas in northern Italy....much heavier gothic influences, although it is present in other towns. I should have mentioned this an infrared shot from my converted 300D.
