Well, the vacation is now in the books. Tried to get a few shots of the pelicans flying by while on my morning walks along the beach. Deceptively difficult to get a good focus on the bird, with the camera every so often grabbing either the edge of a wing, or a wave/spray.

I got 4 images to share. All taken on the beach, most of the birds were about 25 yards (75 feet) off shore. For as large as they are, they sure can glide by quickly.

These are cropped fairly heavily, leading to some loss of detail of the bird.

Thanks for looking, and any comments.

Yes, birds are not the easiest things to shoot.
A lot has to do with preparation.

I prefer the view of the first one ... now if only you had a 800mm f/5.6 L lens.

Great effort that's for sure. I've been doing some D90 manual reading on just what I have to change setting wise for my best shot at birds vs florals, & basically non-moving subjects It's a lot more complicated then I thought.

My personal favorites are is pic #2 and the 1st non cropped picture.
