Anhinga comes from the Brazilian Tupi language and it means "devil bird." the anhinga has other nick names like snake bird, or darter bird.

That's a nice shot! Looks like it is trying to dry out a bit. Wonder how it got the name, "devil bird?"

Yep, either drying out or trying to thermoregulate it's body temperature. The name anhinga came from the Brazilian Tupi language which means "devil bird." it has other nick names like, darter or snake bird, because of it's snake like neck of course.
