Do most of you shoot your b/w's in b/w mode, or do you shoot in color and convert?

I took several in b/w mode this past weekend. I was fairly impressed with the quality, but I still found myself making several adjustments in PS. I really like being able to adjust the shadows and contrast. I like high contrast photos :D

It just kind of seemed like a waste of time. I figure if I shoot in color, I have the option to keep it or convert it. Any advantages to shooting in b/w with my FZ5 over shooting in color or is it just preference?

I definitely prefer to shoot in color and then convert in PS. I don't trust my camera to know what I want out of a b & w photo.

I'm with becca always shoot in colour, and convert to b/w in PS
(images > adjustments > desaturate)

Me too. Colour first -> then convert to B&W.
I reckon the in-camera black and white conversion isn't that great. Sometimes it's right on, but I find there's not enough contrast.

I shoot in colour and convert it to b&w in Raw Developer.

I would LOVE to shoot RAW B&W straight from the camera. :)

colour then convert. i can ad my own contrast that way. i love contrast

I heard somebody mention that he uses the in-camera b/w mode for the intention of taking b/w photos, which make the phot session in itself different.
