Digital Tele-converter on the Canon S5 IS

Hi folks,

I'm new to this forum as well as new to this camera. I think I need a sanity check regarding the digital tele-converter function on this camera. I'm considering turning it off because the optical zoom of 12x is sufficient for my current needs and I am concerned about potential image degradation in using the tele-converter to go even longer since the camera is only 8 MP. Any thoughts?

Welcome to the forum.

It's hard to keep up with the technology of 'digi-cams' but from all that I've heard, it's best to avoid any type of 'digital zoom'. Do your best to get a sharp shot with optical zoom and crop the image later, if you must.
