Maybe consier cropping out the bottom left are in the 2nd or blending in from the first one perhaps.

Both photos show the differences in DOF, and are interesting together.
Taking the photos singly, I also prefer the second image as offering more interest. Great idea, and I like the differences you have posted on your flickr.

They are the compressor blades of a jet engine. The are painted blue for demonstration purposes. They are on a cut away display at an aircraft museum. Thanks for the input.
