I wouldn't worry too much about meeting people off Craigslist. I've done it quite a few times with positive results. They're just people looking for good deals on stuff. Always meet in a public place though, just to be on the safe side. Grocery store parking lot, Starbucks, etc. I would never meet them at my home unless there was no other option.
