This was yesterday at the Dutch figureskating championships. All my pictures turned out this way. There was just not enough light for my Minolta Dimage 7i to use a shutter speed fast enough to freeze the image. I spotted two photographers with huge lenzes and was wondering how that helps? I used full optical zoom 7x and 1/60 to 1/90 shutter speed (90 was already dark).

you didn't mention ISO. have you tried upping it to 400, 800?

yeah, higher iso produce more noise although some cameras have noise reduction feature. another way is to remvoe noise with software like Neatimage. you can find it here http://www.neatimage.com/
have fun :)

Yup, upping the ISO will allow a faster shutter speed but with the likelihood of more "noise".
The large lenses you saw will undoubtedly be "fast" lenses with low "F" numbers which again allows a faster shutter speed.

hmm maybe open the apperture and use even 1/200 shutter?
