Hi everyone,

I'm brand new here so excuse my complete lack of knowledge of both photography and any technical terms you might use.

I've had a Diana F+ for a little while now and have used and had developed 3 films. After getting these back I noticed that the images scanned to the CD cut off the sides of my pictures. When I look at the images on the negatives they have nothing cut off.

Now I assume this is a problem when scanning the negatives but I wondered if this is common or if that place that I am getting them developed and scanned is just a bit rubbish and I should probably go elsewhere?

Thanks.

I would go back to the place that scanned them and ask them. Or if you have a friend with a scanner go ask them. I would suggest getting your own scanner anyway. They are very useful for things other then just photography but a must have if you shoot film and want to share it online.

How much of the edge are we talking about?

Most people don't want to see the rebate area (the non-image area of the film, that has the frame numbers and film type) on their prints. A little cropping is necessary.

Assuming that your films were processed, scanned and printed using an in-store automatic machine there will have been some cropping of the edges to account for positioning tolerances of the printer/scanner and the folm gate in your camera. If you want scans of, or prints from, the full negative then you will either have to do it yourself or send the films off to a specialist lab which will charge accordingly for hand processing and scanning.
