SO I took pictures of my kids today, and alot of them came out great! I wanted to edit a few to brighten them up, but the problem is, I shot them in RAW format and the software I have (photofiltre) doesn't support it. I only use photofiltre because I dont edit my photos much, usually only a little brightening up and that's it, so ive never seen a need to spend $ on Photoshop. Anyone know of software other than photoshop that supports it? im new to this whole SLR thing, so the pictures don't need anything special since they're just personal photos anyways

Check out Adobe Lightroom. It has some limitations compared to Photoshop, but will probably do everything you need and more... and it's pretty inexpensive.

By chance did you camera come with a CD? If so install the software that is on it. If you camera will shoot RAW then the manufactures usually provides you with software that will edit RAW.

Usually because it sucks soooooooooooooooo bad.

Yet, for the OP, would work juuuuuuuuuuuuust fine.

Maybe. Whatever that train wreck is that Nikon provides was just north of utterly useless. I tried it and got so angry at it I nearly put my fist through a monitor.

I'm much better now.

Yet I use it all the time. Ingestion, keywording, star-rating, etc. Works perfect for me.
