Hi Experts
I'm new to photography and have been given hardware and integrated software from the company, my medium being property.
i am now going self employed and need a software program, preferably free for the time being, that will allow me to straighten, adjustment brightness and mid tones and remove number plates and faces from personal pictures.

my current equipment
Nikon D5100
Sigma EX 10-20mm wide angle lense,
SB700 Flash gun
Slik SH705E Tripod

Any advise is great.

Lightroom is what you need.

Yeah, it aint free, but your best bet is lightroom.

You could use gimp, which is free, but theres quite the learning curve.

Give up a can of soda every day for a month and you can pay for it.

Or red bull, coffee, snacks, etc.

Learn to budget and it shouldn't be a problem.

You can do the basics with the Nikon software that comes with the 5100 - think it's called NX - but yup, you'll need lightroom for the more invasive stuff.

As other members have said, I'd go with lightroom. Its definitely worth it. It's pretty easy to pick up as well so you won't be wasting a lot of time figuring it out.

GIMP.org and Photoscape.org both free, open source image editing applications.

There are many types of image edits Lightroom cannot do.
