I need an outdoor venue for a photo session this summer. Informal, just my daughter as the subject...she's 11 months, but should be walking by the time the summer comes around...nice park, or grounds of some sort not too crowded, a spot by the river maybe...I'm just not familiar with the city...I live WAY up north. TIA

The legislature building!
It's by far my favorite place to take pictures in Edmonton!!!!
Another is.. I think it's the Alberta Museum. Just west of 124st and off Stony plain rd believe. Big Mike will know for sure :)

The Legislature grounds and the Museum (Government House) are great locations for portraits and/or wedding groups. The nice old architecture, with plenty of steps, makes for a great place to photograph groups. I wouldn't suggest that for a toddler though...especially in the summer. There are hundreds or even thousands of weddings groups there every year...so it's a very busy place...especially on Saturdays. Might not be too bad during the week though.

What type of photos are you looking to take? I don't see those locations really being great for photos of a toddler...I would think a park or playground or something like that would be better. In which case, any location would do...even a front lawn.

Do you want something with a dramatic background that says 'I was in Edmonton'? If so, I would suggest somewhere on the south side of the river, overlooking downtown. There are great views starting at Gallagher Park (top of the hill)...and then moving East down Strathern Drive. In the summer, there are usually some great sunsets to accompany the city skyline.

Other options would be Hawrelak Park, Goldbar Park, Rundle Park (where I had my wedding) etc.

Looking at a map, there are many, many parks...especially through the river valley...I'm sure you won't have trouble finding something.

I was thinking of this too but couldnt remember the name of the area. I've seen many great pictures from parks and trails along there.
I thought the ledgislature would be great because there's lots of grass, flowers, and trees. There's also the pool.. however it might be too deep for such a little one. I can't quite remember.

Thanks guys :) My hubbie and I will be down in May so we'll scout them out. My husband is from Edmonton, but the only place he came up with was the museum..lol...the Legislature building sounds good..I have been there a few times. Here's the photographer I've contacted. I haven't heard back from her yet, but I LOVE her work!!! photosbyiasha.com . I'm sure she'll have a few suggestions as well huh?
