Can others edit my Photos
Photos OK to edit
A friend of my hb saw my camera in one of the occasions when we were at the restaurant he works at, and just because I have that great camera he asked me to take some photos in the restaurant. Because of various friendly related reasons I said ok. I'll, with my hb and kids visit that restaurant after my work and while I will be taking pictures the two of them will be taking care of the kids. That was the deal.
The day we managed to go there was dull and rainy. The light in the restaurant and the light from the outside were competing. I photographed areas where there was no my kids and waiters there (mostly the second floor). I'll be certainly coming again for more shots.

I showed him a photo on the camera and he was ecstatic. He wants all the photos I take. No matter if I don't like them, he'll like them all. He wants me to photograph the rooms, the bungalows and all the area around (the restaurant is just a part of a touristic complex) Everything.... and for marketing purposes. Flyers, website, fb page etc...

They don't have any of the photographs taken for that restaurant, except some snapshots. So my photographs are the best they got and most likely they'll stay the best for quite some time.

I described his view and, the view of the most people there, I guess.

From my point of view... Some photographs have more noise then they should. The time of the day was not ideal. I see issues he or some other average person doesn't see. The biggest criteria for him is probably that those pictures were taken with an awesome camera.

Who is right here?

I know someone will ask to see some examples so here are some shots I took.

Don't be bullied. tell him that you will take some more pictures, go through them at your home, and offer him only three or four of the best ones. As you're doing this for free, I don't see how he could complain about that. The reason you want to limit the number of photographs is so that he understands that any of the three will be up to your standards, and all of them can be used to print flyers. If you give him too many, he will print them all and then what do you have?

BTW: be sure to have something in writing about licensing them for publication. It should say specifically how many images, for what uses, and for how long.

I already explained him a few times that he'll get maybe 10 max from that day, and those 10 I'll have to like. He was trying to persuade me to give him all photos, but I declined every time, politely and with the smile.

The licencing here is not that simple, actually...it is the simplest it could be. Those are my photos but he can use them without any limitations if I give them to him and without mentioning my name anywhere. We don't have those legal obligations here. He'll put my name if he's a friend, but not because he has to.

My daughter-in-law keeps every photograph ever taken. Doesn't do anything with them just keeps them. She has over a dozen thick photo albums of prints. I usually discard the really bad ones before I show her any.

I wrote "three or four" just as a starting point. If you say 10, he will want 20. LOL

omg!!!

I deleted about 500 just yesterday :)

As for the topic, I forgot to say that I'm not sure am I willing to photograph the whole touristic complex without being paid. That's a lot of work, there and in post. I was thinking to do just a restaurant and then maybe ask that hb's friend to talk with his boss if he wants more pictures, he'll need to pay... but will I actually have a courage to propose that...I don't know...

The owner is a millionaire so I wont certainly cost him much.

Here is that criteria again... considering the circumstances, am I good enough to take some money for photographing?

and...mods, please move this thread if it isn't in a good place ;)

You got some good pictures, nicely framed etc. - I could see those in an ad in a magazine. I'd be looking into arranging compensation/payment for any future photos/licensing and start moving from doing this as a favor towards being paid. It's a business (the restaurant that is) and your photos will be used to help him make money. And he apparently can certainly afford a photographer. I think this might be time for an end to the freebies.

If you have a contract and will be paid then maybe you could arrange to go on a day when the light will be better and flattering to the interior and give you better lighting conditions to work with. You have some talent, I'd be thinking about how you value your time and ability. Good luck with it.

Don't worry too much about it. I'd bin the obviously duff ones that may exist though. 3,4,5,6 look useful, imo. If you get a sense that the person has no grasp of good versus poor composition, then you need to guide them a bit, only supply what you feel are good enough.

Thank you so much for your kind words Sharon!
I'm trying not to smile like a fool :D but... I really appreciate your words

I'm on the phone so can't type much.troubles always.sorry for typos

Yes, from viewing some of your photographs, I'd say you are good enough. Go for it! :headbang:

Don't work for free. If it goes beyond a casual favour, work something out with them.

Oh guys you rock!

:hugs:

You and your pictures are more than good enough. You are a very good photographer. And for the fgull job he want s, you should definitely be paid.
