favorite photographers?

is this appropriate? i know we all discuss each other's work but i thought maybe we could discuss influences or inspirations.

i absolutely love keith carter (http://www.keithcarterphotographs.com). his work is so incredibly beautiful..

i'm also a fan of conceptual photographers such as misha gordin (http://www.bsimple.com) and joel-peter witkin (http://www.correnticalde.com/witkin/). gordin's work is more surreal and minimalist while witkin is quite morbid and intricate. i think what they do is amazing because it takes so much creativity and hard work.

and of course i know the 'masters' like sally mann, diane arbus, ansel adams, etc.

how about you? who inspires/influences you?

Like ice cream, my favorite flavor changes daily. Some of my current favorites are Imogen Cunningham, Margaret Bourke-White, Sally Mann, Huger Foote, and Charles Jones.

i really, really, really like michal macku's gellage stuff. (***there's nudity on that site... be careful.***)

i also really like d. brian nelson's erotic photography. (***lots of nudity on that one.***) very contrasty and sometimes pretty grainy, but i like it. he also does night photography, but i don't tend to like much of his stuff in that area.

you know, it hadn't occurred to me until i started trying to list this stuff, but it seems like most of my favorites tend to do nudes. cause i also really like spencer tunick's work. he's the guy that does the naked states tour. they've had a special on HBO about him. he goes out and has people strip down in public and takes their picture. he gets arrested for it all the time. he's done shoots with thousands of nude people at once. it's bizarre, but that's probably why i like it.

there are a couple that were already mentioned that i enjoy as well like sally mann and joel peter witkin.

Thats the only explanation, she loves nudes, loves morditity, and she has a thing for the Maku stuff, (looks like Marilyn Manson's music on crack!) LOL, Oh yeah that whole Yao Ming fetish is just too much for me

In all fairness though, a psychologist would say that i am just projecting because i like nude, perverse, morbid, and generally distastful things as well :twisted:

i was at barnes and noble tonight and i found a book that i want very very much. it's called couples and it's the work of a photographer named stefan may. it's more of the sort of erotic photography stuff. pretty cool. here's a picture of the cover:
