Though I wound never consider hunt humming birds with anything other than a camera... I feel I'd have better luck getting one in flight with a .22 pistol than with a camera, thirty shots of this bird in flight and 1 that is usable. feel the need to work on bring the camera to my eye so it's pointed where I'm looking and being left eye dominant I always bring the view finder to my left eye (tried time and again using my right eye, even with diopter adjustments I can't see clearly), so keeping both eye's open doesn't help.
In #1 the dark smudge is an insect the bird is after, 2 & 3 are the same bird perched in different areas.
