Im on a quest to get the sharpest scans possible, i have never thought much about it until recently, I've been doing as much research as i can.
the issue i'm running into
I use a canon cancan 9000f.
When i scan my color 6x6 negatives using the software and original carrier the images come out very grainy, but almost like static on a t.v.
I thought it was originally my home developing techniques.
Then i read to sandwich the negative with a piece of glass, losing the carrier all together, and scan through Photoshop. doing this the negatives i thought were unusable are completely fine. however Scanning through PS bogs down my computer dramatically. (probably due for a ram upgrade anyway)
when i try this technique through the original scanner software it won't read the negatives at all until i put them in the carrier. Then i'm back to step one with the "static"
How do you guys achieve good scans? and what would be causing this static?? I don't mind running through PS its just super slow.
