I've been shooting with a Minolta SRT-101 and XD11 for a couple years now. I'm finally going to take the plunge into the world of DSLR photography.

After a lot of extensive research, I've narrowed my camera choice between the Minolta Maxxum 7D (with a Sony 35mm 1.8) and the Nikon D200 (with a Nikkor 35mm 1.8). I'm trying to figure out which one is better overall, or if they're just too similar for it to really matter.

I'm aware of the major technical differences between the two cameras. I don't really care about the megapixels. Both combos cost around the same.

My priorities are:
1. Making beautiful images (color and contrast are most important)
2. Quality

Any feedback is greatly appreciated.

For service issues I would get a Nikon but why a D200? For about the same money you could get a D5100 that is for better in image quality and high ISO performance.
