first "decent" photograph

this is the first photo that ive shot/printed that i actually like. i just started a class in august. i want to know how i could better this photo. it was scanned on a second rate scanner though. go ahead tear it up!

It could use a tad more contrast, I think, and the parts that are in focus could be sharper. Other than that, it's a nice shot

Oh, and looking at it a second time, I might be tempted to crop off the top 1/4 of it, just above the out of focus balls there.

It would really look great if you used a faster shutter speed- the photo would be sharper and cooler. I like the theme, and b/w, though.
