Buy a D90 :er:
Nikon kit lenses are fantastic. (Nikon lenses in general are fantastic. I know several Canon users that buy adapters so that they can use Nikon glass on their Canons...The purpose of that is beyond me, but whatever suits them I guess..) The D90's kit lens is a multipurpose powerhorse. You'll also be starting with what will essentially be the last camera you'll ever need for anything.
