First dslr

Hello everyone, I'm looking for some advice for my first dslr purchase. I've been saving and have $1300 that I have set for a body, lenses and accessories.

I'm pretty sure I have decided I want the d5200 and 2 maybe 3 lenses to start with. What would be the best lenses to start with? I will be doing a lot of micro photography on plants on insects, night time photos(starscape type stuff) and birds and wildlife( there are some bald eagles nesting close to my house

.

Am I making a good body choice? What lenses would be best for me? Any help is greatly appreciated.

I should say I would like to be able to do so good video also.

You may even be happy with a D5100 for much less money and put the extra coin to better lenses. Otherwise, for just marginally more money I'd get a D7000. Right now it's almost the same price as the D5200.

OP, if you did end up with a D7000 (which is a great camera), I'd recommend the 50mm f/1.8D lens. It's a steal at just $130. The 50 1.8G is also nice, but in short supply right now, so they're selling new for about $250 or so, when they should be closer to $200.

I recommend spending $250 on a D200, then $700 on a Nikon 80-200mm f2.8 AF Macro

& buy an old 8mm later for video.

So thats why its more expenisve thanks for the tidbit. And it jumped up astromically to almost 300

After much thought I got the d5200 18-55 kit, a 55-300 4.5-5.6g, 35 1.8g and a 55 1.8g. I spent a little more than I though but I'm extremely happy

You got quite the setup there, congrats! Most people usually pick either the 35 OR the 50 1.8G. You'll find over time that you will tend to use one over the other. They will both excel in low-light situations, but if you have one on the camera and it's either too wide or too narrow, you'll most likely just get used to moving forward or backwards with your feet as opposed to taking the time to swap lenses. I had the 35 and it's a great lens, but I wanted something a bit tighter for low-light portraits, so I traded it in and got a 50 1.8 instead. In the end, it's all up to your personal preference. Enjoy the new gear! :thumbsup:

Congrats on your new camera, the 50mm 1.8G lenses rock, they are probably the best value in Nikon line up.
