Hey All,

I just booked a Family Portrait Shoot for a Husband and Wife with their two kids (dogs). I gotta admit, not exactly sure this is all gonna go so I was hoping someone here might be able to share some advice to get me started in the right direction?

Thanks!

Their place or yours?

Neither, outside on location by a large lake and waterfront.

What aspect(s) are you unsure of?

I guess I shouldn't really say I am unsure of any certain aspect, just checking to see if anyone has some advice to share. As this is my first Family Portrait with pets, I figure some advice from anyone who has done it before could always help.

Well have you ever done shoots with children???? Same thing with the exception that the dogs will be better behaved.

Not dis-similar to shooting children, except unlike children where tired = cranky, with pets, especially dogs, tired usually = cooperative. Make sure they've had a good run/walk and have both treats (w/ owner's permission) and squeaky toys on hand. Depending on the dog, I often find it best to have the people "introduce" me so that they know I'm not a threat. Have lint rollers handy, and ask the people to bring a dog brush if appropriate. Watch for any signs of drool, etc, and consider your lighting & poses carefully, since you will have two sets of faces at [potentially] significantly different heights to deal with. I like a lot of 'sitting people' poses so their heads are closer to the dogs.
