First Flower Post!

I took these Saturday at the King's Mountain National Park in King's Mountain, SC.

I broke the hell out of the rule of thirds -- I know I could have composed these much better. But honestly I was just snapping pictures to get into the "mode", I didn't expect these to turn out well at all, but I think they came out nice and clear, good DOF, etc.

I'd welcome opinions, comments. criticism... whatever ya got!

Cool shots. Diggin the DOF in the first shot, but both are excellent. Dont worry...rules are meant to be broken.

both look great, Id lighten up a little on the bottom shot...there is a little too much shadow

They did come out well, for these being only "test shots" ... apparently you know what you were doing, even though you may not have realised it at the time .

I really like the first and - since you cropped it square - do not mind the centredness AT ALL, I find it only fitting, and indeed, DOF and exposure are very nice, red flowers are a CHALLENGE in photography. And you mastered that!

Agreed, the second is a bit dark. But some curve adjustments can help that. No problem there, I think.
