I've done about two or three, but this one is not too bad for a noob. I had camera up on a monopod angled a tad and moved pole around like a boom. Sound probly sucks as I'm right by speaker, but one of the band members has a H4N thingy we'll use next time to dub in the un-crappy sound from the song being played.

Thoughts?

Yeah audio recording is a science within itself. Your best bet in live concert situations is to plug directly into the board. You can use a wireless pack to record the audio to the camera or record to a dedicated recording device.

good job tho

I was just going for smooth transitions, I knew audio would suck. I'm nowhere near set up for video, but I think I can make do with what we have..especially when keyboarder brings in his audio device thingy. Fun stuff though.

You say that but I often forgo using our production camera in favor or one of the d3100 and a 50mm prime.

Next time use 2 cameras. One stationary on a tripod and a little lower. The second one as a roving camera to cut in. Keep the 2nd camera on the entire time you are moving for one clip because it is easier to sync 2 tracks once instead of 5 or 8 small clips to the main track. I liked the overhead shots with the monopod. I tried this before and very tiring and hard to keep from bobbing too much. Yours was smoother and if you do use 2 cameras you can cut out the lift up and down part.

Audio is science in itself like runnah mentioned. That is one area I hate to deal with. One time I requested an audio file off of the soundboard and someone must have tripped the cord slightly because it had bad crackling. Totally unusable.

Good idea, I think someone has a T3i I can use as the stationary with my good lens on it, and I can roam above with my 10-22 once I get it. Good idea. ;-)

once he brings in the h4n i'll just dub in the real audio over the chitty audio, I am familiar with editing video enough to make that happen.
