I have the D80/SB600 combo. I use an older version of this. I use Nikon's cord (roughly $80). I have the old cord (model?) that I had previously used with my film Nikons. The only problem with the bracket is that it doesn't accept an anti-twist plate. I solved the problem with stratetically-placed duct tape on the bottom of the camera to add just a tiny bit of bulk. When I'm not using a flash, I don't even know that it's there.

Inexpensive is a relative term, but I got this Alzo Flip Flash Bracket. It's the only one I've had, but it seems pretty good. I got the soft box because I can also use it on a light stand for off camera. Using the soft box on the bracket wth a SB800 and D700 & 24-70mm lens combo, it dooo get a bit heavy.
