yeah, at first glance i thought the surrounding area was like sand/desert hills of some kind.... never thought it was just a small puddle

glad you like it. The area was near a mountain top surrounded by sparse trees and shrubs with a foot or two of snow on the ground. It's a very popular destination for hiking and snowshoeing.
