Full frame vs regular cropped frame?

So is it worth spending an extra grand for the full frame option?

Like with most things, there's not easy answer. You have to decide that for yourself based on the differences.

Personally I want one, but that's because my two favorite lenses were/are the 50mm/f1.4 and 85mm/f1.8, and I wish they behaved the same on my 10D as they did on my EOS5. If you are starting from scratch, something like that is a lot less of an issue.
